We know: many of you when they read “lavallière” have commented: what?!?

Sorry for the French language, now we come back to us and try to understand something more about the groom’s suit and the choice of the accessory to match with it.

Over the years men’s accessories changed a lot, becoming less formal and traditional, even lending themselves to the world of street style. From Charlie Chaplin to Fred Astaire, through Frank Sinatra and why not, to Batman’s Penguin (certainly less charming and charismatic :-P): many were the characters from the world of entertainment and cinema that brought the accessories into the homes of all of us.

Just like a woman plays with her wedding dress, marriage gives the groom the chance of playing with the combinations of colors and fabrics not only for his suit, but also with the witness’s one, showing off damasks, silks and valuable fabrics.

So, coming back to us: papillon, tie or lavallière, that is just a wide bow tie? But let’s see with a practical example when to choose the tie and when the papillon with the garments of Andrea Versali. In the picture that we show below two different suit presented both with large tie; on the left there is a dress in wool and viscose blend, a ceremony reinterpretation of the classic smoking.

When to choose the papillon then? When the dress code requires it, following the rigorous rules of elegance, as happens in this dress, a clear reference to the classic evening smoking.

Important note for the most precise between you: the ends of the papillon should not exceed the tips of the collar of the shirt and the lateral lines of the face in width. For everything else… There is our man department!
